Family Bluegrass Festival

Attend the Family Bluegrass Festival on Saturday July 31st from 11am till 6pm at Forest Park in Otttawa. Admission into the festival is free.

4 bands will be performing along with , vendors, food, drawings/giveaways, and a "Jam Tent" where you can bring your instrument or voice and sing along.

Benefit Spaghetti Feed
August 1st, 2010 l Reading, KS

Stop by on Sunday, August 1st from Noon to 2pm for a Spagettie Feed benefit held in the Reading Elementary lunchroom.

All proceeds from the dinner go to help defray medical costs for  Kristi Karr a teacher at Northern Heights High School who has been diagnosed with lung cancer.

Dinner that night includes Spaghetti, salad, bread, drink, and a brownie or cake.

Free Will Donation.

 

 

Miracle Treat Day
August 5th, 2010 l Burlington, Iola, Garnett

Visit The DQ for Miracle Treat Day to benefit Children's Miracle Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of Children by raising funds for 170 children's hospitals.

On Thursday August 5th. Participating Dairy Queen  DQ Grill & Chill locations will be donating $1.00 or more from every DQ Blizzard Treat Sold that day  to the Children's Miracle Network Hospital in local communities.

ALL FUNDS RAISED STAYS IN THE LOCAL COMMUNITIES!

Coffey County School Enrollment
August 4th & 5th, 2010 l Burlington

The 2010 - 2011 Burlington School Enrollment will on August 4th and August 5th.

Times of enrollment are:

10:00am - 2:00pm

3:00pm - 6:00pm

All 3 schools will be holding their enrollments at the Burlington High School.

Parking and Entrance into the high school will be at the west side of the building.

 

1st United Methodist Church Free Concert Benefit
August 6th, 2010 l Emporia

The Apple People from Emporia's 1st United Methodist Church will be hosting a Free Concert Benefit on August 6th.

Christian Band Cloverton from Manhattan will perform starting at 7pm. (Please Bring a Lawn Chair)

Garnett Chamber Golf Tournament

The Garnett Area Chamber of Commerce will be having a 4 Person Scramble Golf Tournament Fundraiser for the Chamber of Commerce this year.

It will be held at Garnett Country Club on Saturday August 7th.

Chronic Health Conditions Workshop

If you live with a chronic health condition, or are close to someone who does. Don't Miss Kansans Optimizing Health Program (KOHP). A highly interactive and motivational education workshop.

On August 10th and continuing for six consecutive weeks, a FREE workshop will be offered every Tuesday from 5:30pm - 7:30pm at the Flint Hills Community Health Center.

Space is limited so pre-registration is required and can be done so by contacting Suzanne Brown at (620)642-4864 or Evelyn Smith at extension 3741.

A book for the class can be purchased but for the first 6 participants who pre-register (caregivers not included) will receive a free book at the first class.

 

Blood Drive

The Community Blood Center will be holding a blood drive in Iola on Wednesday August 11th from Noon to 6:00pm at the North Community Building located at 505 N. Buckeye St. in Iola.

Please come out and support the Iola community and your local hospitals. This summers blood supply is low, so if you can, please come out and help!

Biker Breakfast

Every 3rd Sunday of the Month is a Biker Breakfast put on by the American Legion Post 13 in Yates Center. The Biker Breakfast runs through the month of  September.

Scrambled Eggs, Hash Browns, Biscuits and Gravy, Link Sausage, Coffe and Orange juice will be served at the Northwest side of the beautiful historical Yates Center Square from 7am to 11am.  Just $6.00 donation.

Team Penning Event

KSPA- Kansas State Penning Association will be at Kelly Park Rodeo Arena Saturday August 21st starting at 6:00pm and again on Sunday August 22nd at 10:00am.

Team Penning is a fast paced sport that requires the teamwork of three riders and their well-trained horses. It is the perfect sport for those horse enthusiasts who love speed, so bring yourself, friends, and families and mount up for a fun day at Kelly Park This Saturday and Sunday.

Bowlus Fine Arts - Artist Series

The Bowlus Fine Arts & Cultural Center in Iola is holding an Artist Series on Sunday August 22nd starting at 2:00pm.

This series is called " A Personal Perspective"

Photographer Mark Dunlap takes us on a journey through his camera lens as we view nature from his perspective. Dunlap was born and raised in Iola and lived in northern Minnesota for 17 years where he captured amazing images of plants and wildlife in breathtaking surroundings.

2nd Annual Dog House Build
Sept. 19th, 2010 l Emporia, KS

The Humane Society of the Flint Hills will hold their 2nd annual dog house build on September 19thm at 1pm at the Anderson Building located on the Lyon County Fair Grounds.

Boy Scout Troop 165 will be assisting us with our build. Each boy scout will build their own dog house for their woodworking merit badge and donate it to the Humane Society. In addition, they will assist them the day of the build with an additional five houses. All houses will be given away to senior citizens and low income families that do not have appropriate shelter for their dogs.
