WILDCATS DECLAW EAGLES 34-6
Posted by: Jim Hills
September 4, 2010 - 10:55 AM
Burlington Wildcats fumbled away their first possesion of the night, but from then on they took the game over defeating Uniontown 34-6. All three pass completions in the first half resulted in touchdowns from QB Korbin Ratzlaff. Cats led 21-0 at the end of the first half. Uniontowns only score came with 1:30 left in the game, but Ratzlaff answered with a 73 yard kickoff return for the final score of the night. Give us a call if you caught the "phrase of the game" from Jim and Rick.
The Cats go on the road next Friday to face Neodesha, winners of their first game of the year also.

School Safety
Posted by: Lindzey
August 16, 2010 - 2:32 PM
Gosh I can't believe school is starting back up. No matter how long I've been out of school it still make my stomach turn a little bit . Never was good at the whole school thing. Instead of reading books ...I read magazines....Instead of listening to lectures...I cat napped....and Instead of going to school functions...I skipped them to go to rock concerts! Honestly, if you had tickets to see Rob Zombie in KC would you stay for a Kansas State Exam? Nope! So I didn't know then but I guess I was just preparing for my career in radio! Anyways, now that school is getting underway and anyone who has been caught speeding in school zones knows that you want to watch for those and slow down...Those tickets are not cheap...Not that I would know anything about that. Ugh! Also, our bright young students will be walking and riding their bikes to school so on the way to work...please don't hit them with your vehicle! Please do your part to make this a safe school year for our kids.

Busy Weekend

July 11, 2010 - 10:39 PM
Had an awesome remote at Twin Motors in Iola on Saturday and great hot dogs. Then off to Olpe with our sister station KISS, for thier Festival where we met a lot of cool people including the Mayor of Olpe and the fire department guys, who by the way cooked up some incredible bargecue and baked beans. Then it was off to Garnett for the fireworks. This was the first time I'd been to the Garentt fireworks display which was awesome as well. We gave out a lot of concert tickets and if you went to any of the concerts call the radio station and let me know how they were. It was a way cool weekend. And most important, welcome home to our Troops and thank you for protecting our country's freedom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

June 27, 2010 - 10:48 PM
Had a blast at Garnett's Thunderfest this weekend! These speed boats screamed across the water so fast I had a hard time taking pictures of them on the water. The drivers were amazing. I believe there was one driver there who was 83 years old racing a boat that was going upwards of 90 mph across the lake. Some would call him crazy....I would call him my new hero! Thanks to Vernon and the rest of the staff at Thunderfest for letting us be there! Congrats to the winners of the Cinderella, REO and Pat Benatar Tickets! Have a great time at the show guys! May 27, 2010 - 9:26 AM
Diana Freeman from Freemans Plumbing Heating and AC in Burlington recorded a new radio ad. You may have heard it already. It’s about joining her and her team at Freemans honoring our brave men and women overseas by wearing Red on Friday. Though her guys wear red everyday to show their support she is hoping every all area businesses will start their tradition of wearing red on Fridays. I think this is great idea. We are all very patriotic here at The Dawg and we respect our soldiers so much. So, I hope you will join her in this great display of support! I know we don’t need Memorial Day weekend to remind us to honor those who died in our nation’s service but I encourage you this weekend to give thanks to family members who have a loved ones serving! To our veterans THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! Have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend!

Thanks to the Foster Parents and TFI Family Services Staff members for taking the time to come in and talking with us about Foster Care. After talking with Susan a foster parent in the area through TFI Family services I realized that it isn't just providing a safe and secure home for a child in need but much more. For an example she mentioned how being a foster parent has helped her and her husband become a better parent to their own daughter! Very Cool! Earth Day VS. Rock Concert
Posted by: Lindzey
April 22, 2010 - 9:07 AM
Rock Concert VS. Earth Day
I’ve never been a huge fan of earth day. When I was in high school they would force the students to walk all over town picking up trash like a bunch of convicts. However, one year I had tickets to go see Rob Zombie on Earth Day. So the question was…pick up trash all day or go see a rock concert in KC? Well naturally I chose to skip school and go see the concert! Now granted the concert was amazing and I had a blast but every year since then I try to start a new habit that is good for the environment. Nothing extreme but little stuff. Last year I stopped littering! Ha ha. This year I have replaced the light bulbs in my house with non-sucking energy light bulbs. Here are a few ideas on how to go green if your not quite sure on what you can do.
· Take Showers instead of baths & Turn off the water when brushing your teeth.
· Many families spend over $260 each yr on paper towels. Switch to cloth napkins, sponges, and cloth towels.
· Flip over used paper for scratch paper.
· Start purchasing recycled products. It creates an economic incentive for recyclable materials.
Don’t forget if you live in the Coffey County Area to take advantage of all the things the Coffey County Household Hazardous Waste Facility offers. To find out hours of operation or what materials they accept log onto coffeycountyks.org and click on Household Hazardous Waste.

Well its not very often that us Kansas folk receive national attention for anything other than Severe Thunderstorms but I am happy to report that on the Ellen DeGeneres show today a Topeka girl, Hannah Manry and her friend will be making an appearence! Not for their charity work or reporting on Twisters in Kansas but for how hiliarious Hannah is after waking up from her wisdom tooth surgery. And like any good girlfriend who accompanied Ms. Hannah to her surgery for support had a video camera rolling the whole time after she woke up from it. Its safe to say Hannah is still out of it! Then this friend of her's posted it on YouTube, where it's had more than a half a million views. Gotta love girlfriends!!
You can catch the girls interview with Ellen today at 3pm. Check out the hiliarious video to the right.

Terri Thompson
NTAF Midwest/West Kidney Transplant Fund
Emporia, KS
Terri Thompson was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease when she was 27 and has endured multiple health problems, along with other family members, including her mother, brother and two sisters who have also been diagnosed with this hereditary disease. Terri has been a registered nurse for nineteen years. During her career she has helped others in a variety of nursing roles, including management of 4 dialysis units for several years.
Terri was living what she refers to as a “normal life ”(even with kidney function of 24%), working full-time as a school nurse until April 2009. Then a kidney infection changed her life and placed her in end stage renal failure. She took a medical leave, believing she would heal and be able to return to her nursing position. Unfortunately, her kidney function did not return, and she is now on the kidney transplant list. Due to her blood type, Terri could be on the list for 2-3 years or longer. Many have offered to be a donor to Terri.
Kelly Dooley (kidney donor) is a long time friend of Terri’s daughter, Christin Black. Kelly, of her own volition and without the knowledge of Terri or Christin, began researching what was required to be a living donor and filled out the necessary paperwork. It was only then that Kelly informed Terry of her decision to be her donor. Within a very short time, they found out that Kelly was a match! Kelly is recently married, works in a hospital, has a Masters in Speech Pathology, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. Kelly is willing to make a sacrifice above and beyond to give the gift of life.
Even with insurance, there are many uninsured transplant expenses that must be paid for out-of-pocket: co-pays, deductibles, immunosuppressant drugs, and travel and relocation expenses. A fundraising campaign in Terri’s honor has been established with NTAF (formerly National Transplant Assistance Fund). NTAF is a non-profit organization that has been assisting the transplant community with fundraising for more than 26 years. All contributions are tax-deductible and are administered by NTAF exclusively for transplant-related expenses. When considering your donation, please think of Kelly’s generosity.
